Trouble comes in threes, Grandma CeCe always said....
A baby. Just holding one sets Julia's heart thumping. She's wanted a child for so long. When she finally gets pregnant, she's bursting to tell the world...until a checkup from the doctor confirms a miscarriage.
Julia's world feels like it's dissolving. This second tragedy following her father-in-law's death shakes her and her husband Greg. To support his mother, they uproot their lives and move to Greg's childhood home. Under the bright Midwestern sky, Julia can feel a new world and new hope beginning.
But trouble comes in threes, and soon a boy shows up at Julia's new daycare whose blue eyes and freckled face look eerily like Greg's. Despite her love for her husband, Julia finds her thoughts haunted by the boy's face, and she can't shake the feeling that her husband has a secret.

I really enjoyed this book. I found Julia a very sympathetic character and enjoyed getting to know her and seeing the strength and grace that emerged. I empathized with her in her losses, the tough questions she had to wrestle with, her curiosity and even her indecision upon learning the truth. The plot was perhaps a bit predictable but overall, especially for a debut novel, I found it very engaging and I love the author's writing style.Product details

Ditch Flowers (Audible Audio Edition) Amanda Linsmeier Danielle S Carroll LLC Penner Media Group Books Reviews
Ditch Flowers was a wonderful read....Ms. Linsmeier is an amazing writer...Her characters seemed so true to life...and I had to laugh at a few things written about what goes on in a Learning Center/ Day care since i have worked in one for 15 years...I hope to read more from such a talented woman!! KUDOS!!!
I was always going to read this book. I personally know the author from college, and she works at my local library. Plus, the cover is perfect and the title is fantastic. So it was nothing but huge bonus that the book itself is awesome. It digs into the pieces of marriage, of life, that are not often examined, and it's done so, so well; I felt like I could've been friends with Julia. I read it in a day while I've been sick. Absolutely, highly recommended, and the bonus to you is getting to know a new and fantastic author!
SPOILERS!!! This was an emotional but great book, the only thing missing is an epilogue. I liked all the main characters including Greg and Megan. I was happy that the couple have their happy for now ending but would have liked to seen them together more.
I loved this book! The author has an amazing ability to invoke an array of emotions as she takes one on Julia's journey. The story flows easily but keeps you wondering whats coming next. Ms Linsmeier writes with an artistic flair as she describes Julia's world. Want to read more!
The story is sad and tender but still so full of hope and promise. The author's description is absolutely beautiful, I feel as if I'm in the story myself. I felt so much compassion for the main character, she has to contend with a great many of life's most difficult issues at a very young age. And I confess I was so happy with the ending that I cried. Well done Amanda Linsmeier! Keep writing woman!!
As a book club read, Ditch Flowers got me out of my comfort zone (YA books), and into the world of women's fiction ... not something I like to do, but Linsmeier's prose was smooth and efficient, the plot engaging, and the characters were compelling enough to hold my interest until the end. I recommend this one!
I really enjoyed this book. It made you feel that basic yearning to want to be a mother and the overwhelming disappointment when it doesn't work out the way you thought it would. What I also liked about this book is the fact that she brought her husband Greg's sense of loss into the picture. I think we sometimes get so caught up in our own loss that we forget that the father is also experiencing this great loss. There is often a tender heart that beats behind that chink of armor. I found Julia's sleuthing skills to be quite comical when she was trying to uncover whether her husband had been unfaithful. The book makes us realize that none of us are perfect and all we really want is to be loved and forgiven. But are we willing to forgive and love? I definitely recommend this book!
